Influences

Tate has been influenced by design and beautiful things ever since he was a child growing up in Louisville. His mother was an interior designer and always made a point to introduce his brother and him to things that made one's life and home special and unique. She exposed them to antiques, fine art, and special memorabilia from around the world and always had a way to find the right balance with it all – something Tate tries to incorporate in all of his projects today.

After leaving Louisville to pursue his dream of representing the USA at the 1996 Olympics with his horse, Tate found his way into the next phase of his life and attended school at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduation, Tate moved to San Francisco, where he worked for Giorgio Armani and got his first taste of the fashion industry. He decided to go back to school and get a degree in fashion design, having been drawn to the fast-paced glamour that industry had to offer. After completing a program at FIDM, Tate once again moved across the country to New York City, where he fulfilled a life-long dream of landing a job at Ralph Lauren as an assistant designer in menswear. After years of working for Ralph Lauren and traveling the world designing fabrics for the men’s shirting lines, Tate had the opportunity to make yet another move into the world of Home Design for Ralph Lauren. There he continued his love for textiles, patterns, prints, and design while learning about the home furnishings Industry. He was able to work with some of the most skilled artisans, weavers, and printmakers in the world, and traveled extensively collecting antiques and artifacts to inspire fabric collections and home products. After 15 years of working in New York City and designing for Ralph Lauren, Tate left to embark on the next chapter of his life and launched Tate Reynolds Designer Inc. Getting back to his love of horses, design, and home interiors seemed like a fitting step in his process and journey as a designer. Now Tate has come full circle, moving back “home” to Louisville, Kentucky, with his partner, Tim, and their dog, Navy. Tate is excited to bring his experiences and expertise to his clients not only locally but across the country.
